Worship Culture

Did you know that over 250 volunteers serve regularly to make Sunday morning worship happen at Grace Church?

Worship is our opportunity to respond to what God is doing in our lives — to come to Him in a room full of broken people, surrounded by His glorious presence. And, as the local church, God has given us the responsibility of leading that.

In our daily lives, outside the walls of church, we might individually engage in worship in a variety of ways. We strive to create a life of worship, as the Holy Spirit renews us daily and continuously makes us more like Jesus. We worship through prayer, through reading God’s Word, and through our obedience to it. We listen to worship music in our cars and maybe when we’re doing chores around the house. We might even have worship music playing while sitting at our desk at work. So what’s the difference in worshipping at church during a weekend service? What does God say about corporate worship, and why do we care so much about it?

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3: 16 – 17 (NLT)

This verse doesn’t emphasize us as individuals. We are called, as the Church, to worship together through song — to come together to set our hearts solely on God’s story and our humble participation in it.

At Grace Church, we hope that corporate worship on the weekend is the overflow of individual worship during the week.

When we engage in worship together, we are on the receiving end. We are led by the words on the screen and the worship team’s music, and we are to respond with focused hearts attuned to the Holy Spirit. If we walk into church in anticipation of waking up from a spiritually dry season or for a spiritual cloud to be lifted, corporate worship holds us accountable. It encourages us, moves us, and gives us a glimpse of Heaven — unified as one people for one purpose. It keeps our eyes on our citizenship in Heaven and the fellowship we get to experience on earth. Worshiping together is crucial for rekindling our spiritual fire and keeping it burning as we leave the walls of the church building.

Do you have musical gifts you could use to serve others at Grace Church? Do you want to help engage the church in worshiping together?
