14 Oct Espinosas on Allendale
This weekend we heard from the Espinosas on their time in Allendale. Their family has lived in Allendale for the past two and a half years and will be looking to transition out the area the summer of 2014. Though their time in Allendale is coming to an end, the work God is doing will continue beyond their tenure. Please be in prayer for the Espinosas as they evaluate the next steps for their family. Please also continue to pray for their relationships in Allendale, that the people of Allendale would come to know Jesus as their Savior.
This weekend we also heard Matt teach from Luke 5:1-11. In this passage, Jesus calls Peter, James, and John to follow Him as disciples. After recognizing and acknowledging Jesus as Creator, Judge, and Redeemer, Simon falls down in worship declaring: “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” (Luke 5:8). Immediately, Jesus commands: “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people! And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.” (Luke 5:10-11) Upon realizing Jesus’ authority, Simon’s posture shifts to one of humility, and he leaves his career to follow Jesus.
Matt challenged us to think about our own calling to follow Jesus and be fishers of men. For some of us, we need to consider leaving our current context, like the Espinosas, and follow where Jesus is calling. For others, we need to re-evaluate the way we are living our lives in our unique context. Regardless, we must obey and follow Jesus’ command on our lives.
Where is God calling you to move in your life?
